*blink blink* Fuck yes. (Behold: expletive for use of emphasis; obviously, I am feeling witty today.)
The fresh vine leaves actually have taste - a kind of sweet edged tang, reminiscent (oddly enough) of grape, which adds an awful lot to the rest of the dish.
Also, I've yet to find a non-vegetarian version sold commercially. Real* dolmades should contain lamb mince, and ideally be eaten warm. All this dill and mint nonsense M&S and worse shove into theirs is, in the original recipe, just supposed to be seasoning for those that want it, not the taste basis for the entire bloody dish.
Would recommend mugging any neighbours or friends that have vines and making your own, with much haste.**
